About the event

The International Symposium on Beef Cattle Welfare was conceived and developed by a team of cooperating U.S. and Canadian animal scientists and veterinarians and has become a biennial rotating event with a U.S. or Canadian partner as its host. Symposia have been hosted by Kansas State University (2008, 2010), University of Saskatchewan (2012), Iowa State University (2014), University of Calgary (2018), and Michigan State University (virtually in 2020 and 2022). In 2025, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is honored to serve as host, marking the first time the symposium has convened in person since 2018!

 

The mission of the symposium is to highlight progress made by the beef industry for the welfare of cattle and to discuss new areas of opportunity for improvement. Most importantly, this symposium is one of a select few events that brings together the entire beef supply chain—including cow/calf ranchers, stocker and feedlot operators, packers, veterinarians,…
